Near Bihac, on a hill above the left bank of the emerald Una and on the road to the town of Cazin, there is a fortress called Ostrožac. This fairytale-like building is mentioned for the first time in official documents as far back as the year 1286. But, according to still not confirmed allegations, it existed even since the year 405 BC under the name Horosium. It was owned by princes, the Ottomans and Border captains. The Last known owner is an Austrian count, of Habsburg lineage, Lothar von Berks, who at that time was mayor of the town Bihac. In the Second World War Ostrožac served as the main base for the Supreme Headquarters of the National Liberation War. There Josip Broz Tito prepared the maintenance of the most important political event in Europe at that time, the first session of AVNOJ. 1969 a colony of Sculptures was founded and Ostrožac became a gallery under the open sky. Sculptors from all around the world stormed the entrance gate.

The castle that defies time since the early Iron Age is a true jewel of cultural and historical values of Krajina and the Krajina people. Due to its geographical position, this area, called the gate of Bosnia, has left a deep mark in the history of our country.

Immersed in lush greenery and surrounded by high walls, old town Ostrožac is one of the most beautiful cultural heritage sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We still cannot certainly say who the first builder of this enormous fortress, on a ca. 500 meters high hill – Ostrog, was. Castle Ostrožac is an exceptional example of architecture and a fortification in the true sense of the word. Those who visit this castle will understand that it, with certainty, was not built on an arbitrary engrossment but on one that offers a unique and perhaps the most beautiful view on the Una canyon. There treasure was guarded and the beauty enjoyed…

Beograd: Mjesto u bojama vašeg omiljenog voća: Tegla Bar

Text: Stilistica – Mersiha Karić

Pozitivna energija. Prirodni sokovi. Industrijski dizajn. ❤

Positive energy. Juices. Industrial design. Those are words that describe this cute bar in Belgrade next to Kalenic market, called Tegla – The Jar. First of all Thegla Bar is a place which satisfies all senses with tempting tastes and smells of desserts and juices. All products that can be found in this small ‘crate’ are prepared from fruit purchased on the nearby market. ❤

Tegle su naravno osnova cijele priče. U njima se služe i dezerti i sokovi. –  Of course the jars are the basis of this story. In them they the desserts and juices are being served.

Miris, okus i boje – sve je u znaku svježeg voća. – Smells, taste and colors – everything is marked by fresh fruit.

Interior designer Luke Surla, used raw concrete combined with details which one can see at markets, such as jars and wooden fruit and vegetables boxes.

– A variety in colors and decor is a great choice for a place like Tegla bar.

Detalji su jako bitni. Uvijek su tu mali buketići i rustikalni asesoari. – Details are very important. You can always see small bouquets and rustic accessories.

– Is there a material that looks better on a gray floor than white wood, and a apron with elements of the unique brand?!

What I liked about Tegla bar is the very energetic atmosphere. Industrial design, which usually gives a sense coldness, is here wonderfully interpreted, looks urban and very relaxing. I am free to say that here materials such as wood, metal and concrete are combined very well and in a inspiring way. In Tegla bar you will not feel like you have to pay attention to everything. Tegla is a place where people are eating and drinking healthy, listen to good music and enjoy the moment.

How to design ‘super-great’ interiors and how to prepare the magical drink, we asked coffee-doctors from the Coffee Laboratory. The project is innovative, but we were very interested how it was designed and what were designer’s obstacles.

Here’s what we noticed at first sight and of course immediately fell in love:

4. Raznovrsnost ponude / Variety of Products

So, to start with the beginning of the story about this unusual place. The project task for young designers was to design a place that is guided by the idea of the name: The Coffee Laboratory! As professionals and top experts in the design they did a perfect job. The creative duo has bravely set out new challenges, and designed for the needs of the Laboratory: patterns, chairs, lamps, tables and other equipment.

Kako bi ostali vjerni minimalizmu i ,čistom’ prostoru odlučili su da crnu i bijelu boju upotpune staklom visokog sjaja i mat stolovima i stolicama. / In order to remain faithful to the minimalism and ‘clean ‘area they have decided to full-fill black and white interior with the high-gloss glass  and matte tables and chairs.
_MG_5175
 Designers Ivona Vikalo and Tomo Lucic pointed out: ‘Surrounded by a bunch of the same content that is constantly repeated, we wanted to do something different, with the personal touch, because we wished to make a place where we will enjoy drinking coffee.’

Consistent to the idea… instead of the standard cups and glasses, all coffees and drinks are served in the Erlenmeyers. White-black combination was combined with lighting effects. Designers have skillfully played with a variety of laboratory elements, but also a wonderful herbal supplements which at first glance dominate the space.

_MG_5216
Dobro apliciran patern je uvijek IN u svijetu enterijera. A šta bi u jednom laboratoriju bilo primjereno osim molekula?! / Well applied pattern is always a good idea in the world of interiors. What else would it be appropriate unless the molecules in a lab ?!

If, in this area, you are looking for well-known brands and familiar stereotypes, you are at the wrong place. In fact, all products that are found in Coffee Laboratory are non-commercial, high quality and unified in the market. Owners, from the very beginning, wanted to have: excellent design, wide menu selection and always happy Laboratory Experts.

‘Laptop friendly place’ odlična je preporuka za poslovne sastanke, ali i ‘radnu kafu’, ukoliko vam vaša kancelarija nije više dovoljno inspirativna. / ‘Laptop friendly place’ is an excellent idea for business meetings, but also ‘working coffee’, if your office is no longer enough inspiring. 🙂

From the laboratory offer they stand out: its own ‘Laboratory’ bottled water from Rajkovac well, homemade cakes and Bagels,  as well as the ‘Laboratory’ brandy and craft beer! In addition, each month the menu gets carefully chosen selection of wines.

Neopterećenost suvišnim detaljima i minimalistički duh je svakako uvijek top preporuka nas arhitekata / Without superfluous details and minimalist spirit this place is definitely  the top recommendation by our architects

Renoviranje stana.

  • polica za vino i polica za knjige – big must have

Stolove: studio Turntable Woodworkers; Police i kuhinju: Studio MI; Tapacirani namještaj smo radile Ana i ja u sklopu projekta Wish Sofa, kao i restauraciju starih fotelja.

U sklopu renoviranja, postavili smo nove podove, zamijenili bravariju i stolariju, obojili zidove (u bijelo naravno (: ), komplet renovirali kupatilo i instalacije, te kupili neophodni namještaj.

Uživati u prostoru u kojem boravite, koristiti ga funkcionalno i shodno vašim potrebama najbolja je stvar koju možete priuštiti svojoj porodici. Ma koliko vas bilo, ma koliko novca imali, prostor prilagodite sebi.

– Books about projects from the former Yugoslav period are my silent suffering. We arranged them so that we can accommodate a lot of friends. The Blue chair was restored by the brand Wish Sofa and is also a wedding gift.

Then, after a long and hard day we sit and talk for hours …

Cvijeće i kolačići stalno su  u vidokrugu. ❤ – Flowers and cakes that are constantly in sight. ❤

– Little assistants are always welcome. Sorting food in kitchen accessories is necessary to me, because I like that everything is neat when we cook.

‘U sobi ne želim puno namještaja. Spavaća soba je za snove i garderobu!’ – tako je započela priča o opremanju 12 m2, u kojoj provodimo vrijeme između 00 – 7 h (vikendom nekada čak do 8) 🙂 – ‘In the bedroom I do not want a lot of furniture. The bedroom is for dreams and clothes! ‘ – So began the story about furnishing 12 m2 ment for the bedroom, where we spend the time between 00-07 h (weekends sometimes up to 08:00)

– There are moments when I say, ‘Today I do not move from here’, but soon realize that we always have the days planned from morning until tomorrow.

Pojam ‘noćni ormarić’ mi nije baš najdraži, pa sam u svom slučaju pribjegla alternativama – Ikea stolica i par starih foto-albuma. – The term ‘nightstand’ is not exactly my favorite, but in this case, I picked a alternative. Ikea chair and a couple of old photo albums.

ENG

Renovation of an apartment. New beginnings. Old furniture. Gifts from friends. Desires, but also opportunities. – It’s all part of a process that in the end has a superb finish.

No matter how much money you have, it is essential that the apartment is functional and that the money was spent on right things. The priorities are very important! Sometimes you do not have enough resources for everything, but look at this as a positive side – you might think again about a piece and realize that you maybe need something else more.

Renovating our first apartment together we knew from the beginning that the budget of 20,000 KM is too small. But, the money intended for travelling we did not want to spend on redundant pieces, which would be soon looking for a new home! Logic has won. The criteria in addition to the limited budget were:

  • A Large sofa and plenty of chairs for many friends
  • Bright materials and large windows, because we are crazy about the sunlight
  • Many shelfs for wine and books – big must have

I like to buy things from people I know, at least virtually. So the tables are made by studio Turntable Woodworkers, shelves and kitchen by Studio MI, Ana and I did the upholstered furniture as a part of the Wish Sofa project, as well as the restauration of the old armchairs. Adna Ahmedić – Drvoredaktura returned the Chairs in the dining room to life. The framed pictures we took ourselves on our trips, some are from exhibitions of young BH. artists, and some remnants of old books.

During the renovation, we have set new floors, replaced old windows and doors, painted walls (in white of course (:), fully renovated the bathroom and its installations and purchased the necessary furniture. the Renovation lasted three months, the furniture we were buying six months and still there are things left to be added …

I am a big fan of plants. I’d have a whole apartment full of small and large pots, which need to be taken care of even for a few hours on weekends. He is a wine collector and our collection is enriched by many friends who live inside and outside the country. One can finde bottles from South Africa as well as some from our beautiful Herzegovina.

Enjoy the space you live in, use it functionally and according to your needs. That is the best thing that you can provide your family. No matter how many of you live there, no matter how much money you have, adjust the space to yourself. Choose wisely and buy quality furniture, but do not be dependent on it and do not ever say, ‘I want this piece to last forever!’

Sarajevo: Just before she said ‘YES’

‘One of the most important moments in life for a lady is her Wedding Day.’ – Somebody said! I am not sure that I can agree with that as I think that every day can be ‘a special one’, but what I am sure of is that on this day LADIES ARE REALLY SPECIAL. Before the big day almost every becomes nervous, changes their opinion in a second questioning her decisions but then again gets so adorable that you cannot say ‘No’ to her, regardless what she wants from you.

To capture those moments ‘before’ we decided to follow one bride from Sarajevo, just before she said ‘YES’!

This is HER short photo story…

IMG_6950a

First, she chose her makeup artist wisely – and what the ‘picky’ bride wanted from her was just an ordinary day-makeup… but then, maybe a little bit more! 🙂

Outcome: A piece of cake for the professional artist

IMG_7566a

Second came ‘The dress’ – simple and with no extravagant details… except for ’those’ gloves she dreamed about since she was a little girl!

IMG_7557a

To let her be mysterious we went to a restaurant where she was able to admire and merge with the wide and relaxing view of the city.

IMG_7294a

And yes… She was mysterious! That is why this beautiful pictures perfectly demonstrate the gorgeous afternoon atmosphere we lived through. Can you sense it?

Time to change scenes… we went to the city center to let the old Austro-Hungarian flair overcome.

Crnopod: Let’s Go Rose – piće kojim se voli!

Vino.

Wine. A drink that promotes honesty, entertains and heals. So says the old legend about the ‘royal drops’ whose name is originally from the Sanskrit word ‘vena’ which means ‘friendly’. With friends we want to spend the most beautiful moments, friends deserve the best presents and a sincere words. That is why it is the perfect drink for honest friends, but also for those a little less honest … because wine, they say, takes off all masks and reveals the longest kept secrets.

Vino u našim krajevima vijekovima teče. A skriveno mjesto koje otkriva nove tajne najvećih hedonista, nalazi se baš tamo gdje niču najljepši grozdovi, uzavreli pod ljetnim suncem. U Hercegovini.

Wine is being produced in our region for centuries. A hidden place that reveals us secrets of the greatest hedonists, is exactly where the finest grapes are springing up, heated under the summer sun. In Herzegovina. One of the many first-rate rose wines, with herbal notes and intoxicating fragrance was created in the long-known Vineyards called Nuić. Vineyards where history is written, where prestigious awards have been collected and where the best oenologists are sharpening their tastes.

Vino ljubavi, užitaka, laganog tijela i lepšave arome.

Rose is a wine that you can drink day and night. The wine that loves those who love. A wine of passion, pleasure, with light body and flattering flavor. That is what is contained in the new bottle of rose wine called Let’s Go. The quality of every drop from one of the greatest bh. wine producers is undeniable, because every grape was grown on the family vineyards, hand-picked and delicately brought to perfection.

Striving for the best, this gently rose drink, ideal for hot summer days and relaxing trips with friends, got a playful advertising campaign. A team of skilled professionals got together just at the point where everything begins, in the beautiful, sunny vineyards between Ljubuski and Medjugorje, in Crnopod.

The story about Let’s GO Rose just started, with the desire that its harmonic taste will be an important part of the summer nights and days, combined with the company of smiling and sincere friends! Because the truth is only one: ‘In Vino Veritas!’

Bihać: Rest for the eyes and soul: Čardaklije

Category: Design Travelers;

IMG_2037

Near Bihać, in the Village Vrtoče I found a real ray of BiH history. Ethno Village Čardaklije, where it is being lived and worked the way people used to 150 years ago, right there. The brothers Radošević had the idea of recreating a rural household on this same place.

IMG_2045

The Radošević’s are originally from Lika, a village located beneath the mountain Velebit. The Legend says that they were brought under Grmeč by an old blind man on a blind horse, to the point where a small stream, Skakavac, is falling down the cliff and commanded: “Stop here, here we will settle.” There the Radošević’s spent centuries before they dispersed in many different directions.

IMG_2043IMG_2046

One of them, Ilija, stayed and built an unusually high house which the locals called “čardak” (the Ottomans used to build high watchtowers called “čardak”) and its hosts “Čardaklije”. Ilija’s son Nikola later became the owner of this lithe “house”. Travelling further down the family history lane, we learn that one of Nikola sons, Vid stepped into his father’s footsteps and stayed to maintain the possession. Until his death he worked on agriculture and the rural household.

File_000 (1)IMG_2054

Stoje i prkose vremenu.

Hundreds of years later ilija is gone, Nikola is gone, nor is Vida there, but Čardaklije remained. They are standing to defy time. They take us back to the past and give us an insight into the tradition of our ancestors, on the same place where life brought them and told “Stop here, here we will settle”.

IMG_2034IMG_2035IMG_2036

Walking along the property I noticed details which gave me feelings of warmth and love. New, but old houses made me pause and carefully observe every nook as well as to admire the authentic architecture. The smell of freshly prepared, traditional food filled the air. Horses that moved freely around made me catapult myself from the present into another, peaceful time; away from the “modern” everyday.

IMG_2031IMG_2048IMG_2049

Osjetite li poriv da istražite planine Unsko-sanskog kantona nemojte zaobići Čardaklije. Svratite da odmorite oči i dušu.

If you feel the urge to explore the mountains of Una-Sana Canton, do not miss the Čardaklije. Stop by to rest your eyes and soul.

This is the first time that I don’t write the post about design or something related to architecture, interiors, product design, traveling… Or maybe it has?! There are an infinite number of connections with a trip to the past, with my childhood and who am I today.

After the usual working Friday, I went to the exhibition in the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A bit naive… without assumption that in that moment I will clearly remember my childhood and wartime in Sarajevo…

In the unique ambiance, of my favorite building, in one of the rooms at the end of a long hallway, within the black sheets, stands my childhood… Childhood of thousands of children and one great memory of those whose laughter and game suddenly stopped!

Today I really want for all those who have spent their childhood in the war to get the space where they can expose a small part of their past… Which will stay as everlasting memory of our improvised toys – large wardrobe we inherited from a relative – first letters by candlelight – the great children’s joy – the daily fear.

I WANT WAR CHILDHOOD MUSEUM !

Trebinje: Divine taste from the Imperial Vineyard: Vukoje

Category: Design Travelers;

Photographer and Storyteller: Mersiha Karić, architect;

Our visit to Trebinje was highlighted with some stopovers at a few wineries, whose quality has been recognized by numerous regional and world oenophiles. ‘Vukoje’ winery is truly, one of the most brilliant examples. It was presented to us with great love by gorgeous Julija.

IMG_1735
“Vukoje Cellar”, in 2013 declared the best winery in Southeast Europe

Going down the staircase to the basement, Julija told us about the authentic wines produced by ‘Vukoje’, pointing out the importance of the vineyard in the production circle.  Their Imperial vineyards are located on the site called Ušće 10 km from Trebinje town, at the confluence of two rivers, Trebišnjica and Sušica. In the late nineteenth century the Austro-Hungarian Empire declared those vineyards as most suitable for žilavka (autochthonous white wine sort), therefore started cultivating the famous Imperial vineyards at this area of 2 hectares.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

The best thing about ‘Vukoje’ Winery is the simplicity and refinement of details. The complete attention is focused on one product: wine! But, should it not be too simple… It is not just one wine sort. There are 15 different kinds which are produced, designed and packaged in a superior manner. Proof of this are numerous awards which make the owners proud.  34 years of hard work, great commitment and sincere wishes … all with one goal: to make a wine which can hold up to the requirements of excellent connoisseurs and passionate lovers of the wine scene!

Ono najbolje u vinariji Vukoje je jednostavnost i profinjenost detalja.

The Wine Stories

For an hour, a passionate narrator and great host presented to us this family tale that begins in the Herzegovinian imperial vineyards and ends in glasses worldwide. The happiest ones, or maybe to say the most experienced ones will buy one of the 150.00 liters which are produced in the cellar ‘Vukoje’. Conducted by an enologist who carefully creates one of the most successful wine stories of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The next story about this BH. Brand will be told from the place where it all starts; from the place where everything depends on sky and earth … right there from the royal vineyards called Ušće.

Until the next time… Drink Wine and be Happy!

Special thanx to our dear friends Aco Spaić and his beautiful wife Dara for such an amazing tour through Trebinje town, giving us a new reason to come again as soon as possible (literally) :).

Vienna: A scent of home: Pitawerk

Category: Design Travelers;

Storyteller: Ines Delić, architect;

All those who don’t live in their hometown will understand me and know the feeling when you miss your mother’s or grandmother’s cooking as well as the smell of homemade, traditional food. Since I live abroad for quite a while I am always delighted when I find a glimpse of my home country somewhere. That’s why I visited Pitawerk this weekend.

Zato sam ovog vikenda posjetila Pitawerk.

IMG_1286IMG_1285

Pitawerk is a compound of the Bosnian word “pita” and the German word “Werk”. For those who don’t know, pita is a traditional Bosnian-Herzegovinian dish – paper-thin pastry stuffed with minced meat, cheese, spinach or potatoes. “Werk” means factory.

IMG_1289IMG_1277File_000IMG_1294 - Copy

Pitawerk opened his doors in Vienna in January this year. A modern but at the same time cozy environment invites you to sit down and enjoy the scent of pita to the soft melodies of Bosnian-Herzegovinian music. The assignment of the architect was to create an urban space permeated with traditional elements. He mastered the task very well. The outcome is a small restaurant designed à la French bakery with an open kitchen decorated with traditional elements.

Moderan, a u isto vrijeme udoban ambijent vas poziva da uz miris pite sjednete i uživate u mekim melodijama bh. muzike.

IMG_1279IMG_1288IMG_1278IMG_1292IMG_1295

The owners are two Bosnians who came to Vienna a while ago. I asked one of them why he decided to open a place like this. “I missed my mother’s pita and I couldn’t find it anywhere in my new surrounding. So, I went home asked her to teach me and here I am, making pita for you guys.”

IMG_1276IMG_1291 - Copy

One thing I noticed while waiting for my zeljanica (pita stuffed with spinach)… there were people ordering their meal in Bosnian, German and English. I was amazed and proud at the same time!

IMG_1281IMG_1287

Keep up the good work Pitawerk!

Nastavite sa dobrim radom Pitawerk!
